Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Young People

CALD young people may experience homelessness as a result of migrating to Australia as refugees or asylum seekers or perhaps due to cross-cultural conflict or family homelessness. Anecdotally, youth homelessness services report increasing numbers of young parents from CALD backgrounds presenting for assistance.

Centre for Multicultural Youth

CMY undertakes a range of programs, projects and policy initiatives aimed at enhancing the life opportunities of young people from culturally diverse backgrounds. CMY provides early intervention services, undertakes policy and research projects and provides professional development and training on multicultural issues. An example of direct service is the Reconnect Young Refugees is a support service run by CMY in two regional areas, which helps newly arrived and refugee young people aged 12-18 who are experiencing difficulty at home, school or in their community.

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre

The ASRC provides aid, advocacy and health services for asylum seekers in Australia. It works directly with asylum seekers, both in community and in detention, to provide aid and support as they seek refugee status in Australia. The ASRC also undertakes advocacy on behalf of asylum seekers. It provides a range of direct service and community development programs and works in partnership with other agencies and organisations to support asylum seekers of all ages.
