Training

Training and professional development opportunities are an essential component of youth homelessness practice, rather than an 'add-on' to the work. Here you will find training and development options on a range of topics. You will also be able to make a request for training you are interested in to be sought on your behalf. Additionally, you will be able to suggest and recommend training you have undertaken to your peers.

Creating Connections Practice Development Workshop Series

In the first half of 2009, Housing and Community Building provided training in all DHS regions for youth homelessness practitioners on three themes:

  • Youth-focused practice
  • Pathways approaches
  • Early intervention

A series of three state wide Indigenous workshops will be run in partnership with Indigenous services in the second half of 2009.

This is the first time that Housing and Community Building has offered practice development training specifically to support the work of the youth homelessness workforce. The training series will be evaluated and will hopefully form the basis for continued training opportunities for Youth Homelessness Workers.
